Its fine 2 keep the females 2gether, you should remove the male from the females around 50 days this alows the pregnant sow(s) a bit of peace in the last sages of her pregnancy, also preventing the male 2 get her pregnant straight after birth as she will come in 2 heat straight away. She will give birth somewhere between 52 and 72 days. The females will help and raise their young. Hope this helps :~)

I have never heard of Guinea pigs eating one of their own. I used to raise them and kept a couple dozen together no matter what. They are born ready to care for themselves. They have hair, eyes open and teeth for eating anything the adults do. Yes, they nurse for a week or so.

He will not eat the babies. They are born fully haired and have their eyes open even before they are born. They can eat and drink like an adult but they still nurse from mom. If you can separate them it would be best.

The father will NOT eat the babies. But he will get her pregnant again a couple of hours after she gives birth. It will put the female under a LOT of stress and she will probably die!

No they do not eat their young like hamsters and rabbits. It is best to separate them until she has the litter then wait until they are about 2mths old to reunite keeping the female and the males separated. I started out with 2 guinea pigs now I have 8. 3 girls and 5 boys and I keep them separated because I do not want them to mate. They have babies like rabbits.

The father will NOT eat the babies. The main problem you will face is that the father will mate with the mother as soon as she has given birth and she will get pregnant again which will put too much stress on her body and she may disown her babies or will abort the pregnancy, but probably both. In the wild guinea pigs live in large packs of males and females and they havent gone extinct yet, which they would have done if every time babies were born, they were eaten by the father.

I couldn't find any literature supporting this. Though I don't want to say for sure that they won't, I can't say that they will either. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

And I had a rabbit that had babies in the cage with the guinea pigs and all but 2 of her babies got eaten, but now I have 1 ear less rabbit coz they bit its ears clean off.. There is more of a chance that he WILL eat the young! I had a guinea pig and my sister had hamsters. The male hamster tries to eat them. So I am thinking that since they are also rodents, they have an instinct!
